About the Fire Department Training Network: The Fire Department Training Network is a 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit, membership organization dedicated to training firefighters. FDTN carries out its mission through its highly acclaimed monthly training magazine, street-smart training books and videos, and its realistic fireground training courses. The Fire Department Training Network began producing its monthly training magazine, FIRE TRAINING (formrely FIRESCUE Interactive) , in 1996 and has continued to raise the bar in fire service periodicals since then. FIRE TRAINING is dedicated to improving your firefighting skills — both on the fireground and in the firehouse. Since the beginning, FIRE TRAINING has been a magazine devoted to training and not an advertisement with a few training articles! Each monthly issue contains nuts-and-bolts training material with results in mind. Whether you're looking for a short read, or a ready-to-use training assistant, FIRE TRAINING provides you with information you can use on your next run! In addition, Department members also receive a monthly training package, FIRE TRAINING Interactive Department Trainer, a complete lesson plan that provides comprehensive, street-smart, training sessions designed to keep your members alive on the fireground. Each package includes a complete training outline, 3 hands-on drill sessions, a 2-page student handout, a review test, and all other information needed to conduct the training. It’s like having another training officer on staff devoted entirely to fire training! The Fire Department Training Network also publishes the successful FireNotes training manuals, comprehensive training packages, training videos, and complete instructor packages — all designed by firefighters who know what it takes to win on the fireground. The Fire Department Training Network owns and operates a 50-acre fire training academy just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana. FDTN's Academy is pure firefighting! The Academy has multiple buildings designed to replicate your response district. All buildings are designed to provide students with the most realistic training environment possible — the real thing. Not only can you learn and practice the skills you'll need on the street but you can do it over-and-over again to develop the skill set needed to succeed on the fireground. A few of the buildings you'll find at the FDTN's Academy are a two-story residence, single-story ranch house with a full basement, a multiple dwelling with 18 apartments, a two-story taxpayer with an auto body shop below and apartments above, a 5-story strip mall (currently under construction) and multiple training props that allow realistic, live-fire, skill development. There arealso plans for a 5-story high-rise building to allow realistic high-rise operations. The Academy has a fleet of apparatus including 4 engines, 1 tanker, 2 tower ladders, and a 100-foot aerial. In addition, FDTN operates a complete support facility capable of supporting the realistic training provided in each of the courses offered. The Fire Department Training Network has conducted courses to firefighters from all 50 states and many countries around the world. FDTN's Rapid Intervention Teams training curriculum has been taught to thousands of firefighters and has been delivered to many of the nation's military firefighters, both on location and at FDTN's Academy. The latest initiative of the Fire Department Training Network is its pursuit of Accreditation as a school of higher education under Indiana State Law. Once completed, the Fire Department Training Network Institute will begin delivering the first-of-its-kind Associates Degree in Fireground Operations. |
